Before we get into today's blog post I want you to watch this video:
(Also the Summer Olympic Games start tomorrow and I can't wait!)
If you are not PUMPED by this video, go ahead and watch it again, and again, and again until the message gets embedded into your brain.
"It's what you do in the dark that puts you in the light"
Good stuff. Makes you think, right? How many times have you thought that this business of photography was going to be an easy business? Be honest, I'm not judging.
Many people get into photography because it seems so easy. "If Lucy can do it, I surely can! I only need a big camera" and although that statement could be true, what you need to know is that success doesn't happen overnight. - and you need more than a big camera to achieve it, sorry.
First thing first:
Define success for yourself. What we find successful is going to be different for each of us, so it is important to understand that this is a personal journey.
Once you have your definition of success what are you doing to get there? Are you putting in the work? or are you having a pity party about the industry being oversaturated and all the cheap photographers out there...
Olympic medals are not won just by attending the Olympic games. They are won by years of practicing, BY WORKING DAILY TOWARDS YOUR GOAL!
Did you see all the things Michael Phelps had to go thorough during training? Well the same goes for you! You need to train as a photographer and business person before you can be successful.
What are you doing today to improve your business? Here are some ideas:
- Photographing under new conditions to grow as an artist and to explore new technics
- Mastering Photoshop & Lightroom
- Networking
- Learning SEO
- Creating social accounts for your business
- Blogging
- Learning how to pose people
- Reading marketing books
That doesn't sounds like much fun, does it? But guess what, you need all those skills and knowledge to create a successful brand ( Plus some more)
There is no time like now to get started! Practice, learn new things, stay curious, and remember...
"It's what you do in the dark that puts you in the light"
